Queen Latifah had a nice run as a television show host and has made a remarkable transition from her early days as a hip-hop artist. According to TMZ, Latifah is going to be pushed on to new projects after her show was dropped from the air.
“The Queen Latifah Show” is in its second season after debuting in September of last year. Due to weak ratings, the show is no more, which is no surprise to those who were familiar with its struggles.
According to TMZ, sources say that Latifah and her team got the news just this week and that the move was all about how the ratings were not high enough to justify the massive cost of the show.
Latifah, whose real name is Dana Elaine Owens, took the information in stride and kept a positive attitude. She went to social media to thank her team for doing a great job and standing up to tough challenges.
“Your dedication and sacrifice was crucial to the entire team, and in the face of intense challenges, you displayed ‘True Grit.!’” she said on Facebook.
Latifah also had the presence of mind to give some words of encouragement to anyone watching it all go down.
“The most important thing in life is that you wake up every single day and take chances. No matter what the outcome … believe in yourself and continue to fly.”
She’ll surely bounce right back on her feet. She’s a talented woman and a soldier.
A little background about Latifah. She is now 44 years young and was one of the original female voices in hip-hop. Twenty years ago, she stood up against the use of degrading language in music, and refused to allow men to disrespect her or any other woman. Things have come a long way since that time, haven’t they?
Like her male counterpart and good friend, Will Smith, Latifah is quite accomplished in television in film. Her work has earned her a Golden Globe award, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, two Image Awards, a Grammy Award, six Grammy nominations, an Emmy Awardnomination and an Academy Award nomination.
The best thing about it is that she’s not done yet. We look forward to seeing more great work from this very talented young woman.
