Sorority Initiates Asked If They’d Participate In a Threesome

Reported by Dr. Sinclair Grey III

Entering college can be exciting and very overwhelming for many students. A new environment can be somewhat intimidating to many students leaving home for the first time. Meeting new friends will help ease some of the nerves a student may encounter.

With so much going on in the life of college students, some seek to join a fraternity or sorority to build strong alliances throughout their collegiate matriculation. Not only does the fraternity or sorority bond last throughout college, but it extends into one’s professional as well as personal life after college.

Joining a Greek-lettered organization should be a time of excitement. However, when that excitement turns ugly, there’s a problem.

Shawntee Caton, 17, and Gabby Jones, 18, who attend Medgar Evers College have blown the whistle on the secret hazing of Gamma Beta Delta. These two women have spoken out on the torturous antics they endured in an attempt to join the sorority at the CUNY sorority which was founded at Brooklyn College on Sept. 29, 1988, according to its Facebook fan page.

Th girls were reportedly blindfolded and interrogated about seχual acts. They were humiliated by many of the sorority members during a 10-hour ordeal that began on Sept 21st.

The young women claim they were recruited by members of the sorority and didn’t expect to be humiliated.

In a NYPost story, the women said, “They got questionnaires asking whether they were seχually active, how many seχ partners they had, whether they were gay or biseχual, whether they had engaged in a threesome or were willing to, and whether they had ever gone to an οrgy. Each was blindfolded and led separately upstairs to a room and surrounded by 20 to 30 women. The tone got nasty.”

Because the women refused to follow instructions, they were ridiculed. Along with the questionnaires and blindfolding, they were talked to in a derogatory manner. When asked to do other things, both of the girls were terrified. One of the sorority sisters said,”‘lighten up, we all had to go through this.”

Medgar Evers College has a ‘zero tolerance’ policy on hazing.

According to New York psychologist Susan Lipkins, the tactic members of the sorority used is called Hazing 101. She said such groups typically pull a ‘bait and switch’ by acting nice to draw recruits, then playing mind games with them. The main goal is you make you feel as badly about yourself as possible. She claims members of the organization break you down, so they can build you back up and develop a group identity.

Gamma Beta Delta’s spokeswoman said that the sorority is against any form of hazing. She didn’t make any mention of the matter regarding Caton and Jones. According to the organization’s website, the sorority is a diverse and well-rounded group of women who strive to uplift each other.
